PCounter in Education
Pcounter is being used at many schools all over the world, from well-known prestigious universities to high schools, secondary schools, school boards, university and public libraries. Students can use a lot of paper, whether they are printing out multiple drafts of research papers or surfing the web. Pcounter enables academic sites to eliminate print waste completely.
- Pcounter can be used in a "pay for print" scheme, or students can be granted a limited amount of pages each semester. Some sites allow students to print as much as they want to, and add the cost to their tuition bill. Pcounter add-on products include payment options for cash, credit card, and campus card systems.
- Pcounter rules-based printing can allow limits to be set on the number of pages in print jobs, free printing based on document types or URLs, and limits on the number of print job copies that can be made, for example.
- The Pcounter Popup can be configured with different profiles, allowing staff and faculty to enter department/project billing codes, while students enter ID/Passwords in computer labs.

Supported platforms
Pcounter works with all versions of Windows 2000 or later.
It works automatically with Active Directory and NT4-compatible domains directly without any need to import or create printing accounts.
- Pcounter works with both 32 bit and x64 Windows versions.
- Pcounter works on Windows clusters and x64 operating systems.
- Pcounter has been fully updated and tested with Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2003 R2, and Vista.
- Pcounter works with Windows 2008 Server Core with configuration UIs from remote computers.
- Pcounter works on networks where Samba is authenticating logons.
- All client platforms are supported. Pcounter can automatically assign print job ownership from other platforms (such as Mac and Unix) or delete the job if an owner cannot be found, or they can use the Pcounter Pro popup clients or the Web Client to authenticate their jobs.
- Pcounter works with multiple and/or trusted domains.
- Printing accounts can be created in our database in addition to standard domain accounts, for creating temporary accounts or usage at sites where domains are not being used.

Pcounter for NetWare
Pcounter is a completely native NetWare application. Pcounter integrates seamlessly into NDS and the NDPS Managed Object Database, where it stores configuration and user information. On large NDS/eDirectory networks where user printing account balances/quotas are enforced, Pcounter supports custom NDS schema extensions that can allow single users to have multiple account balances for different organizations on the tree, or even to have multiple account balances for different printers.
Supported platforms
NetWare 5.1 or NetWare 6.5 are supported, including support for these printing protocols:
- iPrint
- NDPS
- iPrint and NDPS on NetWare 6.5 clusters
- Queue-based printing
All client platforms are supported. Pcounter can automatically assign print job ownership from computers that do not have native clients installed (such as the Novell or iPrint client), by searching the NDS tree, or delete the job if an owner cannot be found. They can also use the Web Client to authenticate their jobs.
Windows client and administrative support require the Novell Client for Windows.
